Is there a reason why the SOAS does not hold a US Open Qualifier as an event on their schedule. Just curious. I think it might generate some excitement in the area for the winner to get an entry into the US Open at the end of March. We have February wide open and was wondering if there is any interest in doing something.
FYI on the pattern: The United States Open Pattern features the toughest lane oil design in all of bowling. The U.S. Open condition is a "flat" oil pattern with equal oil being placed on each board, gutter to gutter. Premium shot making and precision accuracy are required to conquer this difficult condition.

Dennis:
We looked at it a couple of years ago. I believe Lela attended the state meeting when it was being discussed, and if I am remembering correctly, there was some issues regarding format requirements, cost, who runs it,etc., that would have required us to completely re-work the tournament and so I don't think it went much further. I won't swear to this, Lela would probably remember more than I do. I think maybe the easiest would be to try and get a proprietor on board to host it during February and it would fill in nicely for the month we have off and would probably draw well. Just my opinion though.

Greg; Thanks for the info. If we can secure a host center - Northwest Community Credit Union would be willing to be a sponsor for this event. I know that Showtime was being considered as a second stop if Emerald Lanes was not voted on to go there. Maybe that is still an option. I would really like to see us add this tournament to our regular schedule if we can make it happen.
Anyone willing to do some research on this?

Hey now, that was uncalled for. ;D
Warren; I do have more information on this subject. It appears as if there can only be ONE U.S. qualifier in the state. It is ran by the Bowling Proprietors Association of America (BPAA). I am not sure how they award where it is to be held each year, but it has been in Portland forever. My guess is nobody else has stepped up and said they would be willing to host the tournament. There must be some economic issues involved here as well. Maybe guaranteed lineage costs, how much the entry fee is, etc. I am not really sure. Maybe a SOAS proprietor could shed some light on this for us.
If there is more interest in this, maybe we can look into it for next year. If not, no big deal. Just trying to introduce some new ideas.
I do feel that if the qualifier was held more centrally located in the state (Eugene as an example), it would give all bowlers an equal opportunity to enter the tournament.
