Might be a good idea to post people that are interested with their averages to help folks build teams.

First off, I would like to say Thank you to Mark for putting on the tournament. It looks like it will be a great tournament. I would love to bowl, but I am having a difficult time putting together a team. If anyone ends up looking for a high average bowler, I am a 228 composite average for 2013-2014 (225 this year).
One thing that I noticed in your tournament format is that you apparently have no individual average cap that gives relief for one or two bowlers per team that have very high averages. I know that this often becomes a contentious issue at some swiss tournaments because there is always the issue of bowlers averaging way less than their "talent level" and some bowlers with comparable talent will bowl on vastly different scoring conditions in different houses.
I personally refuse to ever intentionally lower my average, but I certainly know of some very good bowlers (including a few SOAS / SOBA champions) who always made it a point to make sure they didn't average over a certain number. I personally feel that you need to be very diligent with the re-rating of some bowlers or have an individual cap (and often still re-rate to that cap) like a 220 or 225 that will blend out some of those differences and create a more level playing field. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input. I contemplated the average cap for one player like Wilsonville/Mt. Hood Swiss does. After bowling the Wilsonville Swiss this weekend, I am glad I went the way I did. I couldn't believe how some of the teams fit in the 1040 cap. I think not having the cap will make it more competitive, It does break up 80% of the teams that bowled this weekend. That may hurt turnout but I hope to fill the tournament anyhow. I spoke at length with JP and Doug MT Hood/Wilsonville this weekend and we are talking about aligning our rules next year and having a series with overall prize fund for teams that bowl all three swiss's. One of the main discussion points was the 225 cap for one player. I will keep my eyes out for a team for you. There are several teams going together that need a player or two.
Thanks again,
Mark Hanken

I was able to obtain an Excel spreadsheet of all Rogue Valley (Lava and Roxy Ann) bowlers SORTED by average for 2013-14 year that would be a good tool to identify bowlers who may fit a cap. It is NOT bowl.com composites so you want to check it against the USBC site after screening names. AGAIN it is only the RV Bowlers list but if anyone else wants or needs this document email me at cookt001@embarqmail.com and I will send it out...Cookie
